Your key to securely access Siemens applications and services with one digital identity
What is SiemensID?
SiemensID enables secure access of Siemens employees, customers and partners to different Siemens application and services. With SiemensID, you can use one digital identity to access different/most services provided to Siemens.
Who can help me if I have issues using my SiemensID account?
Please contact the support/help desk of the Siemens application you are trying to login with your SiemensID account.
What do I need to do to sign-up (self-register) for a new digital identity in SiemensID?
A working email address is required for the creation of a new digital identity in SiemensID. You must also provide your family name, given name, and a password that complies with the SiemensID password policy. Your new digital identity in SiemensID will only be activated after you verify your email by entering the OTP (one time password) code sent to you via email during the final stage of the registration process.
Where can sign-up (self-register) for a new digital identity in SiemensID?
You can use the ‘Sign-up tab’ of a connected Siemens application (if activated for this application) or use the ‘Sign-up tab’ in the login window of the ‘User Self Service Portal’ of SiemensID: https://sp.login.siemens.com. Please be aware, that this will not automatically authorize you to use specific Siemens applications and services.
What is the password policy of SiemensID?
The password must be at least 12 characters long, no more than 2 identical characters in a row and contain at least 3 three of the following 4 types of character: lower case character (a-z), upper case characters (A-Z), numbers (0-9), special characters (e.g.: !#$%^&*).
My account is locked – what happened and how do I fix it?
We lock accounts after the 10th failed login attempts to prevent attackers from guessing the passwords of our users. When an account is locked, an email with a re-activation link is sent to the email address of the user.
I forgot my password. How do I re-set my password?
You can always initiate the password reset process by clicking on ’Don’t remember your password?’ either on the login page of a specific Siemens application or alternatively on the login page of the ‘User Self Service Portal’ of SiemensID: https://sp.login.siemens.com. If you do not reset your password within 1 hour of the email reception, you should make the request again.
How can I add a second factor authentication to my SiemensID account?
You can choose between three distinct options as a second factor authentication for SiemensID. All of these options can be activated via the User Self Service Portal (https://sp.login.siemens.com). You can either use the One Time Password (OTP) sent via SMS, the Guardian mobile application or the Google Authenticator mobile application.
Where can I change name or email address of my existing digital identity in SiemensID?
Changing names and email address can be done in the User Self Service Portal (please be aware, that changing your email may impact your access to applications which use the email as the user identifies): https://sp.login.siemens.com
Can I use an existing digital identity to access Siemens applications/services and how would we initiate an “Identity Federation”?
In principle yes. SiemensID allows Identity Federation with Customer Identity Providers as well as with Social Identity Providers but activation and use of these login methods depends on the connected Siemens application. We therefore ask you to please initiate this discussion with your contact person for the specific Siemens application to which you would like to login with an existing identity. SiemensID supports the protocols “OIDC” (preferred) and SAML for Identity Federation. Setting up an Identity Federation is usually not very complicated (depending on protocols) but will require collaboration between the SiemensID core team and the respective team of the customers IT department.
I am unable to receive my MFA code via SMS or APP
If you’re having trouble receiving your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) code via SMS or through your authenticator app, please contact the support team of the application that you are currently using. They will validate your request and then open an MFA reset request internally on your behalf to restore your access.
What is the SiemensID account linking feature and how does it work?
Account Linking allows you to connect multiple SiemensID accounts that share the same email address into a single unified identity. This means you can use different login methods (like Google, LinkedIn, or your SiemensID local user) to access the same account and maintain consistent access to all your Siemens applications and services.
When will I be prompted to link my accounts?
When you log in with your SiemensID username/password and the system detects other social accounts (like Google or LinkedIn) using the same email address, you’ll see a prompt asking if you want to link these accounts. You can choose between:
- Link the accounts for a unified experience
- Continue without linking
- Select “Don’t ask me again” to stop future prompts
How do I link my social accounts (Google, LinkedIn, etc.) to my SiemensID local user (username/password user)?
Option 1: During Login (Automatic Prompt)
When logging in with your SiemensID password user, if you have social accounts with the same email, you’ll see a linking prompt. Select the account you want to link and you’ll be redirected to authenticate with that social provider to verify that you also own the social account.
Option 2: Manual Linking via Service Portal
- Log into the User Self Service Portal: https://sp.login.siemens.com
- Navigate to the Account Linking section
- You’ll see “suggested identities” - existing social accounts with your email address
- Click on any social provider button or suggested account
- Authenticate with that social provider
- Your accounts will be automatically linked
What happens when I link my accounts?
When you link accounts:
- All linked social accounts become alternative login methods
- You maintain the same permissions and access across all Siemens applications that you had previously on your SiemensID local user (username/password account)
- You can use any of your linked login methods to access the same unified account
Can I link accounts with different email addresses?
Yes, when manually linking through the Service Portal, you can link social accounts that use different email addresses to your local SiemensID account (username/password account).
What if I log in with a social account (Google, LinkedIn) and there’s already a SiemensID account with the same email?
If you log in with a social account and we detect an existing SiemensID account with the same email, you’ll see an informational message suggesting you perform account linking in the Service Portal. This ensures your SiemensID local username/password account remains the primary account with all your existing permissions and access rights.
How do I unlink a previously linked account?
You can unlink accounts through the User Self Service Portal (https://sp.login.siemens.com) in the Account Linking section.
Which social providers can I link to my SiemensID?
You can link accounts from the following providers: Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, GitHub, GitLab, Apple, and Microsoft Azure Common.
Will linking accounts affect my access to Siemens applications?
Linking accounts will preserve your main SiemensID permissions but may affect social account permissions.
When you link a social account (Google, LinkedIn, etc.) to your existing SiemensID local username/password account:
What remains the same:
- All permissions and application access associated with your XGID/User_ID from your original SiemensID local account will be preserved
- Your primary account access and roles continue unchanged
- You gain the convenience of multiple login methods for the same unified account
What may change:
- Permissions that were previously associated with your social account may no longer be accessible, as the social account becomes a sub-identity after linking
- Application access or roles specifically granted to your social login might be affected, depending on how the application you are accessing is designed
Easy solution:
If you notice that you’ve lost certain permissions after linking, you can easily resolve this by unlinking the social account. This will restore the social account to its independent status and reinstate any permissions that were associated with it.
Recommendation:
Before linking accounts, review what permissions and access you have through each account separately to ensure you maintain all necessary access levels.
